Labor day weekend is upon us which means FOOTBALL!  The University of Kentucky is at Louisville sunday @ 3:30 on ESPN.  Also local high school football starts this weekend.  Here is the schedule of local teams in my area.

Weekly Wednesday Night Poker Report #2

Well another losing night.  Thats 3 in a row.  This one wasn’t too bad.  Started at 6pm with 60 bucks, was up at one time $100.  Going into the last hand at 2am I was up $20.  The game was 7 card deuces and one eyed jacks wild high chicago.  First 4 cards were Ad Ah in the hole and then qh qd…so as you can guess i chased this to the end.  I put 60 bucks in the pot and wound up the night down $40.  Im starting to notice a trend…usually from 6pm to 8:30 I play really really well (or the cards come my way)…then it’s a rollercoaster till midnight, after that I start to leak off all my chips. 

Games we played:  Omaha hi/low, 5 card stud, 5 card stud deuces/one eyed jacks wild, 5 card draw, 2/11, 7 card stud, 7 card stud/high chicago, 7 card stud/high chicago/dueces, 7 card stud/high chicago/deuces one eyed jacks, suicide king wild(king of hearts).  7 card stud/low colored pair. Usually we play 2/4 on everything but after midnight it was mostly 3/5. First time in 6 years that we didn’t have enough to have a hold em tournament.  10 people showed up but the 8 of us in the cash game voted to just keep playing cash.  Usually we have at least 17 and up to 30 players show. 

Game that I won most :  7 card / high chicago. 

Game that I lost most money :  omaha hi/low (got A 2 suited at least 5  times then the flop would be 3 facecards) and the last hand which was 7 card stud/high chicago-deuces-one eyed jacks wild. 

First night ever that I did not win any money playing 2/11

Hands of note:

Game: 7 card stud/high chicago/deuces wild…was dealt 2d 2h in the hole, door card was a 5.  6th street was another 5.  6 players at 2/4.  Wound up splitting the pot, my quad 5’s beat quad 4’s..whew.

Game: 7 card stud/low colored pair…2s  10h in the hole, 10d for the door.  4th street = rag, 5th street Qs, 6th street Q clubs…2 raisers, had a hunch that my 2 pair were good.  They were and my pair of black queens also took low colored pair…SWEEEEET
Game: 7 card stud/dueces-one eyed jacks…5d 10d in the hole 10c on the door.  Hit the boat on 6th street but had 3 players with TRIPS SHOWING!  And my boat was hidden!!! Thats what sucks about wild card games…in that situation there was no way I was going to raise with all those trips out there.  And at the end my boat held up! 

Is there any better feeling in poker when you’re playing 7 card stud/high chicago and you get the Ace of spades in the hole?

WSOP on ESPN

Tonight on espn the final table replay of the 2008 $10,000 Pot Limit Omaha event is on.  Of local interest, Greg Hurst is at this final table.  He’s from Tazewell Tn.  just about 10 minutes down the road from me.  It was great to see a local boy do good.  Im not going to tell ya who won but if you want to see the results before the show, go to www.worldseriesofpoker.com 

Anyone see last weeks $50,000 H.O.R.S.E event?  WOW…lots of fireworks.  Scotty Nguyen won but may have lost more in the long run.  Erik Lindgren..all I can say is I thought he was cool before, but now I think he is the coolest dude on the planet.  How he kept it together and didn’t knock someone out I’ll never know. 

After thinking it over Im probably going to play my weekly wednesday night poker game so expect a report thursday morning.  I know I know …..I said I was going to take a couple of weeks off…but Im feeling lucky.  Hopefully the cards come my way.

How was your weekend?

Mine went ok.  Spent the whole weekend packing.  My son moved back to college sunday.  All in all went pretty well.  He’s starting his sophmore year.  Last year was really really tough on me.  Guess I found out what empty nest syndrome was like.  Very very lonesome feeling.  This year was different.  Still a lonesome feeling but excited for him to get back to school.  Not sure he was that excited.  Reminds me of the old andy griffith episode where opie helps some baby birds, feeds them, looks after them, and then sets them free.  He looks in the cage and says “Paw, the cage sure looks empty”…then Andy Griffith says…”Yea son, but aren’t the trees full?”

Weekly Wednesday night poker report

Frankly, it sucked.  Played well in the cash game before the tournament.  Was up $150 so basicallly I was freerolling when the 8:30 tourney rolled around.  Didn’t play bad in the tournament but didn’t play well either.  The only thing worse than being the first player out in a tourney is bubbling out in 5th place.  Damn!  Last 5 tournaments for me ….5 final tables…2 cashes and 3 5th’s….bummer.  The cash game after didn’t go much better.  Went broke about 2:30am.  I really don’t think I played that bad…didn’t chase after hands but just seemed like I was always holding a second best hand. Biggest loss was around $120 in a jacks or better trips to win game that went on for 1 hour.  Pot was around $500.  Again was always 1 card off from a straight or a flush.  Games that we play: Omaha hi/low, Seven card stud variations-high chicago/deuces wild, Low hole wild, roll your own.  Some five card stud deuces and one eyed jacks wild and every now and then 2/11 poker.

This was the second week in a row that I lost my limit so Im going to take a few weeks off.  Seriously considering playing in the World Poker Open in tunica in October.  Gameplan would be to start back around Sept 10.
